Starting from the harbour of Rhodes, it takes approximately one hour to reach Yialos, the most picturesque harbour of the island. While approaching the port of Symi , one has the overwhelming feeling of entering a perfectly painted image of a scenic traditional village. The breathtaking view reveals signs of the different periods of Greek civilization being the ancient, the classic and the Byzantine.
The beautiful preserved buildings are laid out amphitheatrically on the slopes of the surrounding hills. The unique architecture, rich history of the island and the wealth of its inhabitants, who since the beginning of the last century have been occupied with shipbuilding, shipping and trading which is why in ancient times Symi’s first name was «Egli»( prestige) .
